During Roman times, there have been lots of variant varieties of the letter A. Initially was the monumental or lapidary type, which was used when inscribing on stone or other additional long lasting media. There was also a cursive design useful for daily or utilitarian producing, which was done on far more perishable surfaces. Because of the perish
